Chefchaouen
Chefchaouen, the blue town
A long day, or better, one night away
A long day: we recommend a night there
Three and a half hours through the Rif to the town painted blue. Lanes, doorways and stairways in every shade of it, the Kasbah, the Ras el-Ma spring where the women wash the wool, and the square under the mosque for lunch. It makes a long day from Fes; if you can, sleep there and come back the next morning.

Good to know
About 200 km each way and 3.5 to 4 hours of driving; mountain roads. Bring a warm layer even in summer.
Where the day-trip driver picks you up

For day trips and tours with an agency, the meeting point is on the R'cif roundabout, opposite the Funky Friends restaurant. Stand next to the big street lamp at the edge of the garden so the driver can recognise you easily, and be there a few minutes before the agreed time.
